Doctor rape-murder in Kolkata: The incident erupted when younger physicians balked at having discussions with the state government over their insistence on streaming the conference live.
The West Bengal doctors, who have been causing trouble, were criticized by the Trinamool Congress on Thursday for not agreeing to meet with the state government and demanding that the meeting be streamed live.
Kalyan Banerjee, a member of the Trinamool Congress, referred to the medics as “inhumane” and declared them “unfit to become doctors.” Additionally, he pleaded with the West Bengal administration to make sure they are barred from taking their final exams.
The junior physicians’ outburst occurred when they refused to engage negotiations with the state government unless their demand for live streaming of the meeting to settle the deadlock at the RG Kar hospital was met, even after they had arrived at the gates of the state secretariat Nabanna.
Since August 9, medical professionals around the state have been on strike in protest of the junior physician’s rape and murder at RG Kar Hospital last month, demanding justice.
Mamata Banerjee expressed concern over the junior physicians’ failure to attend the meeting after she waited for nearly two hours for the restless doctors to calm down. She also made the offer to leave her position.
“Those physicians who have been agitating for the past month and endangering the lives of thousands of patients are unfit to practice medicine. According to PTI, Kalyan Banerjee told reporters, “They are unfit to become doctors.”
“I was unable to comprehend the inhumane behavior displayed by these medics. Kalyan Banerjee continued, “I would implore the state government to make sure that these junior doctors who have been protesting are not permitted to appear for their final exams.”

Gokhale praised Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, in a post on X, claiming that no other Indian leader had demonstrated such a dedication to engaging in discourse with demonstrators.

Junior physicians need to understand that the CPM and BJP are pawns in this game. Many thousands of patients are suffering as a result of this vile degree of politicization, he claimed.
“It is very unfortunate that the goalposts are constantly shifted every day when a dialog is offered & when the CM herself is ready,” Gokhale continued.

Mamata Banerjee was accused by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “snubbing” the demonstrators and canceling the meeting.
