Modi Govt to table Waqf (Amendment) Bill to be in Lok Sabha today. All you need to know about !

The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to present the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, in the Lok Sabha on August 7. This proposed legislation aims to amend the Waqf Act of 1995. The Bill introduces the role of the ‘district collector’ into the Act, granting the collector the authority to adjudicate disputes arising under the Waqf Act.

Furthermore, the term ‘Waqf’ in the original legislation is set to be replaced with ‘Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development’ as outlined in the 1995 Act. The new Bill states, “Any government property identified or declared as Waqf property, whether before or after the enactment of this Act, shall not be considered Waqf property.”
