The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert until 8:30 am for Thane, Pune, Raigad, Mumbai, and Palghar, as confirmed by the Mumbai Police. Schools in Palghar, Thane, and Raigad will be closed, while the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation announced that schools in the city will remain open. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde mentioned that the NDRF, SDRF, and Indian Army are prepared to assist in potential airlift operations in Pune.
In Pune, the fire brigade successfully rescued and relocated at least 160 individuals who were stranded in houses and buildings in low-lying areas to safety zones.
The heavy rainfall on July 25 resulted in four fatalities in Pune, along with a landslide on the Pune-Raigad road, where one person is believed to be trapped and another person lost their life.
In Thane, two individuals drowned due to the overflow of the Barvi dam, with several others sustaining injuries.
Various incidents such as short circuits, fallen trees, property damage, and rising river levels were reported throughout the state.
All seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai overflowed due to the overnight rains. Debris from a landslide on the Pune-Raigad road caused a traffic standstill, while internal city traffic was heavily congested.
Local trains experienced delays of 10-15 minutes, with the Panvel Chouk line being suspended and redirected to Kalyan. BEST buses also had to alter their routes due to severe flooding in Mumbai.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar were closely monitoring the situation and advised all citizens to stay indoors whenever possible.
