Due to their online series “Gandi Baat,” TV and film producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, have found themselves in legal hot water. Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, they are facing legal action for allegedly displaying graphic videos featuring young girls.
The case is connected to the sixth season of the online series, which is available to watch on ALT Balaji, according to news agency ANI. At the MHB police station, the Mumbai Police filed a complaint against Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Balaji Telefilm Limited. In addition, the producers face charges under sections 13 and 15 of the POCSO Act, the IT Act, and section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The complaint claims that the web series, which had explicit scenes involving young girls, was first streamed on ALT Balaji between February and April of 2021. But as of right now, the contentious episode isn’t available to stream on the OTT service.
In order to shield children from sexual abuse, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was passed in 2012. This statute shields minors against sexual assault, harassment, and pornography without regard to gender. It aims to punish those who commit sexual offenses against minors severely.
On April 19, 2024, Kapoor’s final film, Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 (LSD 2), was released. Dibakar Banerjee’s film LSD 2 did not do well at the box office. Key characters were portrayed by Paritosh Tiwari, Bonita Rajpurohit, Abhinav Singh, and Swaroopa Ghosh.
Earlier, in response to the shocking Hema Committee findings, Ekta emphasized the significance of a safe environment for women at any place of employment.
“We need to equalize and shift agency from men to women. In many areas, we need women in leadership roles. Women must also take the initiative to do it. The report is here, and we will read over it further. When women begin to lead, a deliberate effort will be made to maintain a safe environment for women at any workplace. “I believe that needs to begin,” she continued.
