WhatsApp has introduced a significant update for iPhone users, allowing them to share photos and videos in their original quality on the messaging platform. This means that iOS users no longer need to worry about sending compressed media or search for alternative options to share high-quality content with their friends. Previously, WhatsApp had addressed the issue of low-quality media sharing by enabling users to send media in high resolution or “HD quality.” However, the latest update goes a step further by completely bypassing compression, ensuring that the shared content retains its original quality.
The new feature is available in the latest 23.24.73 update of WhatsApp on the App Store. It allows users to effortlessly send media in its original quality as a file, without any loss of quality through compression. The changelog indicates that this option will be gradually rolled out over the next few weeks, so some users may not immediately see it on their devices.
To utilize this feature, users should open an existing chat or start a new one on WhatsApp. By tapping the “+” icon to the left of the text input field, users can navigate to the Document section and choose Photo or Video. After selecting the desired media, they can confirm by tapping the blue arrow. It’s important to note that there is a 2GB limit on the files that can be sent using this feature.
The sending of these files now comes with a significant change – previews of the media will no longer be shown in the chat window. Instead, recipients can simply tap on the files to view them, adding an element of surprise to the shared content. WhatsApp has also been testing a similar feature for Android users, although there is no specific information available regarding its availability.
