The Maharashtra Transport Commissioner, Vivek Bhimanwar, has announced that the 17-year-old boy responsible for the fatal accident in Pune will be prohibited from obtaining a driving license until he reaches the age of 25. Additionally, state transport officials have revealed that the permanent registration of the Porsche Taycan involved in the incident has been pending since March due to the owner’s failure to pay a fee of Rs 1,758. Furthermore, the police have seized a bill of Rs 48,000 from a bar where the minor had visited prior to the accident. The court had initially filed a case of culpable homicide against the boy under section 304, but he was granted bail within 14 hours of being detained on the grounds of being a minor.
The luxury vehicle will not be permitted to register at any Regional Transport Office for the next 12 months, as its temporary registration will be cancelled under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. It was discovered during the registration process at the Pune RTO that the required registration fee had not been paid, and the owner was instructed to complete the payment. However, the vehicle was not brought to the RTO for the completion of the registration process. According to state transport officials, electric vehicles registered in Maharashtra are exempt from road tax. The registration fees for the Porsche Taycan model amounted to only Rs 1,758, which included hypothecation fees of Rs 1,500, smart card RC fees of Rs 200, and postal charges of Rs 58.
According to the officials, the vehicle possessed a valid temporary registration certificate issued by Karnataka, valid from March to September 2024. The Bengaluru-based dealer was not held responsible as the car was handed over after the completion of the temporary registration process.
During the temporary registration period, vehicles are only allowed to be driven to and from the RTO.
Bhimanwar informed the PTI news agency that the Pune RTO had been instructed to file a police complaint for violating provisions of the MV Act.
Furthermore, a senior official from the transport department mentioned that the Porsche would be confiscated for a year due to the severe negligence in the Pune accident case. The teenager was driving the luxury vehicle at a speed exceeding 160 kmph, allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
The official also highlighted various violations, such as driving without a license and registration.
Vishal Agarwal, the father of the teenage driver and a real estate developer, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the accident. He will be presented before a Pune court today following medical examinations.
Additionally, a state government hospital will release the blood test results of the teenage driver, who reportedly consumed alcohol before the tragic accident.
