During the presentation of the Union Budget 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the importance of the country’s GDP. In addition, she highlighted the government’s commitment to governance, development, and the economy, stating that they were all showing positive progress.

Speaking before the Lok Sabha, the Finance Minister stated in her budget speech, “We have a commendable track record of effective governance, development, and performance, which has resulted in significant economic growth as reflected in the Gross Domestic Product. However, our focus extends beyond just economic indicators. We are equally dedicated to a more comprehensive GDP, which encompasses Governance, Development, and Performance.”

Furthermore, the Finance Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, citizen-centric administration, and prompt decision-making. She also highlighted their approach of prioritizing the welfare of the citizens and adopting a minimal government, maximum governance approach.

The discernible impact of comprehensive development can be observed across all sectors. The Finance Minister highlighted the presence of macro-economic stability, particularly in the external sector, indicating a positive state of the economy. Furthermore, she emphasized that people’s living standards and earnings have improved, leading to greater aspirations for the future. The Finance Minister also mentioned a significant increase of 50 percent in the average real income of individuals, along with moderate inflation rates. This has enabled people to actively pursue their aspirations. In line with these developments, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Interim Budget for 2024.
