“Unifying India:- Prime Minister Commends Article 370 Decision in the Spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’”

A day after the Supreme Court upheld the Central government’s decision to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special status by abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution and dividing it into Union Territories, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed that the top court’s decision has further strengthened the spirit of “One India, Best India”.

In an article following the verdict, PM Modi stated, “In its judgment on December 11, the Supreme Court has reinforced the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat – it has reminded us that our unity defines us. There exists a bond and a shared commitment to good governance.”
A Constitution bench of five judges, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, ruled that the President’s 2019 order to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was valid.

The top court emphasized that every action taken by the Center cannot be challenged and that the court cannot adjudicate on the validity of the government order, underscoring that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.
PM Modi further remarked, “The Court, through its judgment, has upheld the sovereignty and integrity of India, which is appreciated by every Indian. The Court rightly stated that the decision made on August 5, 2019 aimed to enhance constitutionality, not integration and disintegration.”

The Prime Minister expressed disappointment that instead of taking a clear stance on fundamental matters, the country had allowed for duality, resulting in confusion.
“Regrettably, Jammu and Kashmir became a significant victim of such a mindset. At the time of independence, we had the opportunity to start afresh for national unity. However, we chose to persist with a confused-society approach, even if it meant disregarding long-term national interests,” he stated.

In the article, the Prime Minister also asserted, “It has always been my strong belief that what occurred in Jammu and Kashmir was a major betrayal of our country and its people.”

The Prime Minister asserted that the atmosphere in the northernmost region of India has undergone a positive transformation since 2019. He emphasized that people’s aspirations are no longer constrained by past circumstances, but rather fueled by the potential of the future. The pillars of development, democracy, and dignity have triumphed over disillusionment, disappointment, and frustration.
