On Thursday, September 5, the Rajasthan High Court (HC) granted bail to Mohammed Javed, an accused person in the murder case of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal. In broad daylight, Kanhaiya Lal was fatally hacked outside his Udaipur shop. Mohammed Javed was taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) over a month after he and three other people murdered Kanhaiya Lal in June 2022.
The case: Nupur Sharma, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), made some contentious remarks about the Prophet Mohammed. This led to a conflict between her supporters and the large-scale protestors, of whom Kanhaiya Lal was a part.
On June 28, 2022, Riyaz Attari and Ghous Mohammed attacked and beheaded tailor Kanhaiya Lal while he was working in his shop.
They threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi after filming the heinous murder. Soon after the crime, the two were taken into custody. On July 22, 2022, Mohammed Javed was taken into custody about a month later.
Before the murder, Mohammed Javed had carried out a reconnaissance and informed Ghous Mohammed and Riyaz Attari of Kanhaiya Lal’s presence at his shop.
Interrogators were informed by Ghous Mohammed, one of Kanhaiya’s killers, that the decision to kill the tailor was reached at a meeting on June 20. However, individuals who attended the meeting contest any discussion of such a plan. He disclosed that, in exchange for Kanhaiya Lal’s backing of Nupur Sharma, he had offered to behead him, while others had given his family financial support following the crime.
