“U.N. General Assembly President Commends India’s Proactive Role in U.N. Security Council Reform”

General Assembly President Dennis Francis expressed agreement that the progress on the issue of reform has been inadequate, citing a lack of sufficient momentum.

In an interview with PTI on Tuesday, President Dennis Francis of the United Nations General Assembly, during the 78th session, lauded India for its active role in spearheading the reform of the U.N. Security Council. Concurrently, he candidly acknowledged that the pace of advancement in this critical matter has not been sufficiently rapid.

President Dennis Francis underlined the commendable efforts of India, particularly within the G4 negotiating bloc on Security Council Reform. He emphasized that India, along with its G4 counterparts, advocates for a more ambitious timeline to expedite the reform process, aiming to conclude it within a two-year period. The President expressed full awareness of India’s persistent endeavors to push for meaningful and timely changes in the structure of the U.N. Security Council.
