Trinamool Alleges “BJP Tag” on EVMs in Bengal; Election Commission Responds.

The Election Commission has addressed the accusation made by Trinamool Congress regarding the use of EVMs with BJP tags in Bankura district. Trinamool Congress shared images of EVMs with paper tags bearing BJP’s name on social media.

The Election Commission responded by explaining that the common address tags were signed by the candidates and their agents during commissioning. The commissioning process was conducted under CCTV coverage and was videographed.

The ECI norms were duly followed during the commissioning. Today, eight Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal are going to polls in the sixth phase of the general election. The BJP aims to increase its tally from the previous election, while the Trinamool is looking to regain some of the seats lost in 2019. Key candidates in these seats include Agnimitra Paul, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, and Debangshu Bhattacharya.
