TPEM (Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd) and JLR (Jaguar Land Rover Plc), both wholly-owned subsidiaries of TML, have signed a MoU to license EMA platform from JLR for a royalty fee.
The MoU covers the development of TPM’s ‘premium pure electric’ vehicle series ‘Avinya’ on the platform. Additionally, an Engineering Services Agreement will be concluded between the two companies to support TPEM’s requirements for change content for the initial vehicle development.
JLR’s EMA platform is the foundation for their next generation of mid-size electric SUVs, set to hit the road in 2025. It’s designed to give you the best interior space, comfort, and vision, plus cutting-edge E&E architecture, connections, software, and over-the-air capability. The ‘Avinya’ concept was first shown in 2022 and it’s a bold vision for electric mobility. It’s designed to offer a top-notch in-body experience with next-gen connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems, performance, refinement, and safety. Thomas Mueller, JLR’s Executive Director, said that JLR’s engineering know-how and the EMA platform will help TPEM get ahead of the electrification game. He added that this is just another example of how the Tata Group works together to bring value, know-how and create connections.
Access to JLR’s EMA platform will help to speed up TPEM’s entry into the premium EV segment while significantly reducing development cycle times and costs. JLR’s state-of-the-art E&E structure is able to go L2+ autonomous with all the latest connectivity, comfort & convenience features.
It will also help to accelerate TPEM’s adoption of SOTA, FOTA, safety (5 star Euro NCAP), ultrafast charging for high performance vehicle. EMA is developed to global standards and provides TPEM with a robust architecture to bring Avinya up to global standards in terms of product performance and range. This knowledge, skills & manufacturing process transfer will result in over 200 new UK jobs. Tata’s best-selling mid SUVs, the Harrier and the Safari top hat were developed from JLR’s D8. The EMA partnership for a fully vehicle development program is a step up in collaboration and synergy between the Tata Group entities.
