Buxar: In an unprecedented move, a young person from this region constructed the first floating home on the banks of the Ganga in 2023 to aid those affected by the annual devastation caused by floods.
This attempt was made in response to a Central Water Commission report that revealed the Ganga’s water level was rising at a pace of four centimeters per hour. The research stated that it will keep rising in the days to come.
An Arrah native named Prashant Kumar had the idea to construct this unique home. He made the decision to construct a house that would not sink because he was frustrated and powerless seeing his home be constantly devastated by floods every year.
Kumar conferred with his friends who were residing in Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands in order to bring his ideas to life. He built a house that could float on water during floods with their help.
“People in this area must endure the fury of the floods each year. A sizable population is forced to relocate annually owing to flooding, which costs them three to four months of productivity. My proposal is to construct a flood-resistant home with solar-powered appliances to produce electricity. In a similar manner, we could construct multiple houses to accommodate the village’s whole population during the flood. This is a survival in water experiment. I’ve made an effort to use both conventional and organic techniques to fix the issue,” Kumar stated.
Materials Used In Building The House:
This home was constructed using cow dung, mud, and straw in addition to supplies like motor oil and empty paint drums. According to Kumar, the home’s journal has been shaped by the employment of iron angles. “The construction of the floating house had started in the Ghat Ganga of Kritpura,” said Kumar.
“It floats with the waves when there’s a flood,” stated Kumar. The material used to build this home is impervious to water. In addition, the material chosen is extremely light, allowing the house to float effortlessly on the water.”
Goal & Cost:
Kumar’s concept was to construct a house that would never sink in the event of flooding. The house may accommodate farming and animal sheltering in addition to housing flood victims. Additionally, it will cost roughly Rs 6 lakh to develop this 900 square foot floating home.
“I rode a motorcycle from India to Scotland in 2017.” I traveled to several nations at this time and saw a variety of customs. While assisting fisherman in need in many locations, I met a lot of friends who are now involved in the project,” Kumar continued.
