The Bihar Assembly has passed a legislative proposal to raise the caste quota from 50% to 65%.

On November 9, the Bihar Assembly passed a Bill by voice vote to increase the quotas for SCs, STs, EBCs and OBCs from 50 % to 65 % in the state’s educational institutions and in government jobs. The Bill, which was prepared on the basis of a caste survey carried out by the government of Nitish Kumar, was passed unanimously.

According to the Bills, the ST quota will be doubled from one to two percent, while the SC quota will increase from 16 percent to 20 percent. The EBC quota will be increased from 18 percent to 25 percent, while the OBC quota will increase from 12 percent to 15 percent.
