The ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra’ led by Rahul Gandhi has been denied ‘ground permission’ by the Manipur government.

The Manipur government has refused to grant permission for Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra’ in Imphal due to concerns over the law and order situation and recent incidents of violence in the state.

On Wednesday, the Manipur government declined the ‘ground permission’ for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra’ at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district. The yatra was originally scheduled to commence on January 14 from Imphal.

Meghachandra, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president and senior Congress MLA, along with a team of party leaders, met Chief Minister N Biren Singh at his office complex-cum-Bungalow on Wednesday morning. During the meeting, the Chief Minister informed them that his government could not grant permission for the yatra due to the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

Despite considering the government’s response as “very unfortunate,” Meghachandra stated that they have decided to change the venue to a private location at Khongjom in the Thoubal district.

The yatra, which will cover 14 states and 85 districts, will be flagged off by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge. It will involve a combination of foot marches and bus rides.
