Tesla is preparing to enter the Indian market by establishing a manufacturing plant in Gujarat next year. According to media reports, the negotiations for the first manufacturing unit of the electric vehicle (EV) maker in India are in their final stages and are expected to conclude soon. The official announcement regarding the Tesla manufacturing unit in the state is likely to be made during the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January 2024, as reported by Ahmedabad Mirror.
Gujarat has long been recognized as a strategic location for businesses. It already houses manufacturing units of renowned automakers such as Maruti Suzuki. The potential sites for the Tesla manufacturing plant in Gujarat, as mentioned in the Ahmedabad Mirror report, include Sanand, Becharaji, and Dholera.
As of now, neither the EV maker nor the state government has made an official announcement. However, Gujarat Health Minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel recently expressed optimism about Elon Musk’s investment in Gujarat. During a Cabinet briefing, Minister Rushikesh Patel highlighted the alignment between Gujarat’s vision and Tesla’s overarching goals. He also confirmed that the government is actively engaged in discussions with the EV maker to finalize the deal for establishing the manufacturing plant in Gujarat.
The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit was first introduced in 2003 and has since become a significant event. The upcoming tenth edition of the summit will commemorate “20 years of Vibrant Gujarat as the Summit of Success.” This summit serves as a global platform for business networking, knowledge exchange, and the formation of strategic partnerships to foster inclusive growth and sustainable development.
