Upon their return from Barbados, the Indian cricket team arrived in Mumbai after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The team received a warm welcome at the IGI Airport, their hotel, and along the way. Today, Team India has a busy schedule, including a BCCI felicitation function at the Wankhede Stadium and an open bus trophy tour in Mumbai. Fans can attend the felicitation function at the Wankhede Stadium for free on a first-come basis, with gates opening at 4 pm. In preparation for the events, the traffic police in Mumbai has implemented vehicular restrictions, including the closure of seven roads and parking prohibition on 10 roads in South Mumbai.

The T20 World Cup was affected by rain multiple times, and now the celebrations for the returning champions are also delayed due to rain. The parade, which was supposed to start at 5:00 PM, has been postponed because the team arrived late at the Mumbai airport. In the meantime, Devendra Pandey reports that the Wankhede Stadium entry has been closed for fans by the Mumbai Police as the stadium is already full.
Earlier today, the 2024 T20 World Cup winners were welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in the national capital. Devendra Pandey discloses the specifics of the discussions that occurred. Sharma was questioned about the taste of mud after he was spotted putting a piece of the turf in his mouth following the victory. The prime minister inquired about Kohli’s mindset leading into the crucial game, considering his lack of runs leading up to the final. Additionally, Axar was asked about his emotions when he was promoted while the team was in trouble during the final match.
A packed Wankhede but no cricket
The atmosphere at a crowded Wankhede Stadium on a day without cricket is truly remarkable. This iconic venue, which witnessed the victory parade of the 2007 T20 World Cup and India’s ODI World Cup triumph in 2011, is now the site of celebrations for the 2024 T20 World Cup victory. Despite the rainy weather, Mumbai has once again shown its unwavering support by turning out in large numbers. Mihir Vasavda captures the essence of a fully packed Wankhede beautifully in this image.
