Tata Group’s Chairman, N Chandrasekaran, announced on Wednesday that the conglomerate is planning to construct a massive semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat. The operations of this facility are set to commence in 2024. Chandrasekaran revealed that the group is currently in the final stages of negotiations for the plant. Additionally, he stated that Tata Group will begin the construction of a 20 gigawatt lithium-ion storage battery factory in Sanand city within the next two months. This move is part of the group’s commitment to expanding its presence in Sanand, which has become a hub for their electric vehicle technology.
The expansion in Sanand aims to meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles. Furthermore, Chandrasekaran mentioned that the group is involved in the production of the C295 defense aircraft in Vadodara, with plans to shift manufacturing to Dholera in the future. Lastly, he announced that the first phase of the Indian Institute of Skills, a project in collaboration with the central and state governments, will be launched in the state by March 2024. Chandrasekaran emphasized the significance of Gujarat as a crucial destination for both business growth and the development of advanced technology industries in India.
The chairman mentioned that currently, there are 21 companies from the group operating in the state and employing more than 50,000 individuals. He emphasized that the group has a strong connection with the state due to its founder’s hometown, Navsari.
He praised the progress in Gujarat as being both consistent and remarkable, which he attributed to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who initiated the event twenty years ago.
Chandrasekaran highlighted that the economic benefits brought to the state have had a significant impact on its social development.
He referred to Gujarat as a “gateway to the future” due to its notable strengths.
