Tamil Nadu Unveils Budget Aligned with the ‘7 Grand Tamil Dreams

The Tamil Nadu government unveiled its budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in Chennai, focusing on the “7 grand Tamil dream,” which prioritizes social justice and women’s welfare. Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu introduced the budget and revealed a series of initiatives.

One of the key announcements was the introduction of the “Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam,” a housing project named after the late DMK leader and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Under this initiative, 800,000 concrete houses will be built in rural areas throughout the state to eliminate ‘huts’ by 2030.

Mr. Thennarasu highlighted that social justice, the well-being of marginalized communities, and empowering Tamil youth to excel globally were among the 7 objectives outlined in his budget speech.

Additionally, he disclosed that ₹300 crore would be allocated in the budget for civic amenities, including road infrastructure in areas surrounding city corporations.

The Finance Minister emphasized that Tamil Nadu has made significant strides in reducing poverty through its welfare programs. He also mentioned that according to NITI Aayog, the percentage of people living below the poverty line in Tamil Nadu is only around 2.2%.
