On Friday, August 9, the Supreme Court will consider a request to delay the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test postgraduate (NEET PG) examination. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is scheduled to conduct the NEET PG 2024 examination on August 11, 2024, across two shifts, with over 228,000 candidates expected to participate. The court’s decision to hear the postponement request came after advocate Anas Tanwir presented the petition to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Thursday, emphasizing the need for an urgent review of the situation.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, acknowledged the arguments put forth by lawyer Anas Tanwir regarding the matter. The petitioners expressed concerns that candidates are encountering significant challenges in reaching their designated exam centers due to the limited time available, as the list of allocated cities was released on July 31, and the specific test center locations were disclosed on August 8, coinciding with the release of the admit cards.
Additionally, the petitioners have requested the disclosure of the normalization formula for the four sets of question papers to ensure transparency and mitigate any potential arbitrariness in the examination process.
