The suicides in Kota were clarified by the Supreme Court on Friday as not being a result of NEET-UG 2024 outcomes. The court advised against emotional arguments from the petitioners seeking a CBI investigation into the alleged exam irregularities. The bench, led by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, expressed disapproval of the emotional submission made by one of the counsels, emphasizing that the NEET counselling will not be halted. Justice Nath specifically cautioned the counsel against unnecessary emotional appeals. Additionally, the bench issued a notice regarding the pleas for a CBI probe, with the National Testing Agency (NTA) instructed to respond within two weeks, while other respondents (Centre) were given until July 8 for their submissions on the matter.
NEET HEARING IN COURT
The lawyer emphasized that the petitioners were not only requesting a CBI investigation into the alleged paper leak but also seeking other urgent reliefs, such as the NTA providing detailed information about the entire examination process for each candidate before counseling commences in July.
“It concerns the future of 24 lakh students…”, he stressed.
“We acknowledge that… we are mindful of all the issues at hand”, Justice Nath commented, adding that all arguments will be heard on 8 July.
Today, the court considered seven writ petitions related to the NEET case.
One of the petitions, submitted by two NEET-UG candidates, also brought up concerns about exam center manipulations during the test.
For instance, the petitioners raised suspicions about students from states like Odisha, Karnataka, and Jharkhand selecting a specific center in Godhra, Gujarat.
