Successful Testing of DRDO’s Missile-Equipped Torpedo Deployment System!

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful trial of an advanced torpedo release system designed to bolster the Navy’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities, as announced by the Defence Ministry. Known as the Supersonic Missile-Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) system, it was developed by DRDO and offers a significant enhancement over conventional lightweight torpedoes. This missile-based system enables the targeting of submarines at distances extending hundreds of kilometers beyond the typical range. It fills a crucial gap in immediate response capabilities upon detecting enemy submarines. The recent test, carried out around 8:30 am, involved launching the system from a ground mobile launcher at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The SMART system, deployable from both coasts and warships, represents a major advancement in anti-submarine warfare technology. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended DRDO for the successful flight test, highlighting SMART’s potential to strengthen the Navy’s capabilities.
