‘Stree 2’ Breaks Records with Biggest Opening in India, Outshines ‘Fighter’ and ‘Kalki 2898’

The film, which premiered on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day on August 15, is reported to have garnered approximately ₹46 crore on its opening day, in addition to ₹8 crore from select screenings held the night before. Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, and their ensemble provide comedic moments, though the overall impact may be limited.

The total opening collection now stands at ₹54 crore. This achievement has allowed the film to exceed the opening figures of both Fighter and the Hindi adaptation of Kalki 2898 AD, which are notable action films featuring prominent stars. Furthermore, Stree 2 has outperformed last year’s major successes, Pathaan and Jawan, both of which starred Shah Rukh Khan.

Directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios, Stree 2 serves as a sequel to Kaushik’s successful 2018 film, Stree. The cast includes Rao and Kapoor, along with Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana. Additionally, Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan make special appearances in this installment of the Maddock Supernational Universe (MSU).

In Stree 2, Vicky, Bittu, and their companions confront a new threat: a headless creature known as ‘Sartaka’, which abducts young women from Chanderi. The narrative connects with the previous film as well as Bhediya (2022), Kaushik’s earlier work, which is a creature comedy featuring Varun Dhawan in the role of a werewolf.
