In addition to the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, several other roads in the area, including the Srinagar-Leh, Mughal Road, Sinthan-Kishtwar, Bandipora-Gurez, and Kupwara-Tangdhar routes, were also rendered impassable due to significant snowfall.
Today , the Srinagar-Jammu national highway shut down due to numerous landslides occurring between Banihal and Ramban sectors, triggered by intense rainfall. Authorities stated that traffic would remain prohibited on the highway until the landslides are resolved. Debris clearance operations will commence once the region experiences a cessation in downpours.
Officials announced that the highway would remain closed to traffic on Saturday, with clearance operations for the landslides scheduled to commence once the rainfall subsides in the area. Over the past week, the highway had only been allowing one-way traffic due to deteriorating conditions in certain areas. Additionally, heavy snowfall led to the blockage of other roads in the region, such as the Srinagar-Leh, Mughal Road, Sinthan-Kishtwar, Bandipora-Gurez, and Kupwara-Tangdhar routes. The closure of these roads has significantly impacted the movement of both people and goods throughout the area.
