Numerous Indian nationals were among the 41 individuals who lost their lives in a tragic fire incident that occurred in a residential building for workers in Mangaf city, Kuwait. The fire broke out at 6 am local time (9 am IST), resulting in 43 people being hospitalized and four fatalities, as confirmed by the Kuwaiti health ministry. The fire originated in the building’s kitchen, which housed around 160 workers from the same company. Eyewitnesses reported that some individuals resorted to jumping from the fifth floor to escape the flames, leading to their demise.
In response to the devastating incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims through a post on X. He stated, “The fire mishap in Kuwait City is saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is closely monitoring the situation and working with the authorities there to assist the affected.”
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar expressed his deep shock upon hearing the news of the fire incident in Kuwait City. According to reports, there have been over 40 deaths and more than 50 individuals have been hospitalized. The Indian ambassador has already gone to the camp where the incident took place, and further information is being awaited. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has also issued a helpline number and has assured that they will provide all possible assistance to those affected by the fire accident, particularly the Indian workers involved.
The Foreign Minister extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy and complete recovery to those who were injured. The Indian Ambassador in Kuwait has confirmed that over 30 Indian workers who were injured in the fire incident have been admitted to hospitals. It is worth noting that Indians make up 21 percent of Kuwait’s total population and 30 percent of its workforce. The building where the fire occurred was primarily used to accommodate workers, and unfortunately, many lives were lost due to smoke inhalation. Authorities have contained the fire and are currently investigating its cause.
