In each segment, there is a display of competitiveness from various car models. However, the micro SUV vehicles are experiencing high sales due to their affordable prices. This has resulted in other vehicle segments being left behind, leading to a fierce competition among companies to introduce new models in this particular segment. Currently, Tata car is dominating the micro SUV segment, with its popularity surpassing even the fuel-efficient vehicles from Maruti. Additionally, the recently launched Hyundai Exter, despite its full features, is unable to compete with Tata’s offering.
Let’s focus on the Tata Punch SUV, which has achieved remarkable sales and become the best-selling SUV in its segment. Over the past six months, a total of 80,268 units of the Punch have been sold, averaging at 13,378 units per month. On the other hand, the Hyundai Exter, which directly challenges the Tata Punch, has only managed to sell 39,499 units in the five months since its launch in July 2023. The average monthly sales of the Exter stand at a mere 7,899 units.
Speaking specifically about the Tata Punch, the company offers it in both petrol and CNG models, with the latter being known as the Tata Punch CNG. Its standout feature is the 5-star GNCAP rating, which attests to its exceptional strength and quality. The price range for this 5-seater mini SUV starts from Rs 6 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.52 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, there is no other vehicle in the market that offers a 5-star safety rating.
Tata Motors has prioritized customer safety, comfort, and features in the Punch. The SUV now includes a voice-activated electric sunroof in its new models. Additionally, the top variants offer features like cruise control. Standard features consist of a multi-function steering wheel, power adjustable exterior rear view mirror, touch screen, automatic climate control, engine start-stop button, anti-lock braking system, alloy wheels, fog lights, and power windows in the front and rear. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear defogger, rear parking sensor, rear-view camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchor. The SUV also provides a boot space of 366 litres.
Tata Punch is available in four variants: Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. The Adventure and Accomplished trims offer a new camo version. The Punch is equipped with a 1.2-liter petrol engine that generates 88 bhp of power and 115 Nm of torque. The engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission. In the CNG version, the car produces 73.5 BHP of power. In terms of mileage, the petrol version offers 20.09 km per liter, while the CNG version provides 26.99 km per kg.
