The Maharashtra government has decided to give Ratan Tata, the iconic figure of industry and philanthropy who passed away on Wednesday, a state funeral. In addition to announcing a day of mourning for the industrialist on Thursday, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde praised Tata as a “unique blend of morality and entrepreneurship”.
On Thursday, the body of Tata will be on display for visitors to pay their respects from 10.30 am to 4 pm at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point, south Mumbai. His remains will be transferred to the Worli crematorium for final ceremonies at 3:30 p.m. On behalf of the Center, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend Ratan Tata’s final ceremonies.
At the location were Amit Shah, Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister, as well as other ministers and prominent businesspeople including the Ambanis.
“The mortal remains of Ratan Tata will be taken to the NCPA Lawns, Nariman Point, Mumbai at 10.30 am on Thursday for members of the public to pay their last respects and homage,” a statement from Ratan Tata’s family said.
The tricolour will be flown at half-mast at Maharashtra’s government offices as a symbol of sadness, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). Additionally, there won’t be any entertainment activities.
Eknath Shinde referred to Tata, who led the 150-year-old Tata Group successfully and oversaw the transition from salt to software for numerous decades, as a living legend in a post on X.
“Ratanji Tata, a living legend, successfully guided the Tata Group for almost 150 years, upholding a reputation of brilliance and integrity. The Tata Group reached new industrial heights because to his consistent display of decisiveness and mental tenacity,” Shinde tweeted.
All of the state government’s Thursday scheduled programs have been canceled, according to Maharashtra minister Deepak Kesarkar.
