New Delhi: Yoga teacher Ramdev has accused Patanjali Ayurveda’s lieutenant of conspiring to tarnish his image, a day after the Supreme Court pulled the Acharya Balakrishna-led company to a halt over “false” advertisements about its drug treatment. Mr Balakrishna denied allegations that Patanjali was casting shadow on modern medical science and doctors, and instead called for a stop to “propaganda” by allopathic medical practitioners against the use of Ayurvedic medicines.

The Supreme Court bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra, while hearing the petition of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday, said, “False and misleading advertisements of Patanjali Ayurved have to be stopped immediately.”
The Supreme Court said on IMA’s petition, “The court will take any such violation very seriously.” IMA’s petition refers to advertisements in which modern medicine is allegedly used to mislead the public. Insinuating “derogatory” statements were used. The bench said it may consider imposing a fine of Rs 1 crore on each product if it is falsely claimed that it can cure a particular disease.
The Supreme Court on August 23 issued notices to the Health Ministry, AYUSH Ministry and Patanjali Ayurveda on IMA’s plea alleging that Ramdev was running a defamation campaign against the vaccination campaign and modern medicines.
