During the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the Congress party made a statement on Wednesday, alleging that Rahul Gandhi’s car had been intentionally targeted and its windscreen damaged while traveling from Bihar to West Bengal.
During the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’s Bengal leg, a car carrying Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was allegedly “targeted” and its windscreen was smashed. The incident took place in Malda district after the yatra entered the state from Bihar’s Katihar. Despite the attack, Gandhi himself remained unharmed. Visuals from the scene showed him inspecting the damaged windscreen while sitting on the roof of the car. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury suggested that someone from the crowd may have thrown a stone, and expressed concern over the police force’s alleged oversight. Jairam Ramesh, another senior Congress leader, emphasized that the incident would not deter their yatra and the INDIA alliance would not back down. It is worth noting that Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of Bengal, was also scheduled to begin her ‘Jonosanjog Yatra’ in Malda on the same day, leading to increased security arrangements in the area. Rahul Gandhi’s yatra had resumed in Bihar’s Katihar district before re-entering Bengal through Malda. The first phase of the yatra in Bengal had concluded earlier, and it is set to continue in Murshidabad before leaving the state on February 2nd.
