Rahul Gandhi expresses gratitude to the BJP for ‘affirming’ the Modi caste controversy, while the BJP insists on an apology

Narhari Amin claimed that during his tenure as the deputy chief minister of Gujarat, the inclusion of Modh-Ghanchi, PM Modi’s caste, in the OBC category took place. This development sparked a significant political dispute between the BJP and Rahul Gandhi in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha election.

The BJP strongly criticized the Congress MP and called for an apology, while Rahul Gandhi expressed gratitude to the BJP for affirming that Narendra Modi was not born into an OBC family.

Narhari Amin, a BJP Rajya Sabha MP, released a statement on his social media account, refuting Rahul Gandhi’s claims that Narendra Modi changed his caste to OBC during the BJP rule. Amin emphasized that the decision to notify the Modh-Ghanchi caste as OBC was made during the Congress government’s tenure in 1994, when Amin himself served as the deputy chief minister of Gujarat.

He criticized Rahul Gandhi for spreading baseless lies and insulting the OBC communities. Amin further urged Gandhi to retract his statements and apologize to the people of Gujarat for his unwarranted hatred towards their popular Prime Minister. In his statement, Amin clarified that Modi was not even an MP or MLA at the time when this decision was made and the subsequent notification was issued by the Government of India.
