IPL 2025 Rajasthan Royals Head Coach Rahul Dravid received significant recognition for leading India to a remarkable victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. He garnered immense support from the nation. Following his tenure as the head coach of the Indian team, Dravid has been associated with various IPL franchises. Initially, there were speculations about Dravid potentially joining Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), particularly due to Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of the team, assuming the role of head coach of the Indian team in place of Dravid. However, recent reports suggest that Dravid might reunite with his former IPL team, Rajasthan Royals.
The Times of India reported that a source mentioned, “Discussions are underway between the Royals and Dravid, and an announcement regarding this matter may be imminent.” As Rahul Dravid seeks new opportunities, Gambhir has commenced his role as the head coach of the Indian team. He has departed for Sri Lanka alongside other members of the Indian team for the white-ball series. Prior to the team’s departure, Gambhir acknowledged the significant challenge he faces, given Rahul Dravid’s accomplishments as the head coach of the Indian team.
Rahul Dravid and Rajasthan Royals’ relationship
Rahul Dravid’s connection with Rajasthan Royals has been long-standing. In 2013, he served as the team’s captain, leading them to the Champions League T20 final and the IPL playoffs. Following this, he took on the role of mentor for the team in 2014 and 2015, during which the team achieved a third-place finish in the IPL. From 2015 onwards, Rahul Dravid has been involved with the BCCI, initially as the head coach of the Indian Under-19 and India A teams.
He then assumed the position of president at the NCA before eventually taking on the role of head coach for the senior team in October 2021. It is worth noting that Kumar Sangakkara currently holds the position of head coach for Rajasthan Royals. The future of his role with the franchise following Dravid’s arrival remains uncertain.
