“Putin Extends Invitation to PM Modi for Talks in Russia, Affirms Ongoing Updates on Ukraine Situation”

During a joint press appearance alongside Lavrov following their discussions, Jaishankar expressed his confidence in the upcoming annual summit between Prime Minister Modi and President Putin next year.

In his initial statement, Jaishankar highlighted the frequent communication between the two leaders.

“Mr. Prime Minister Modi will be warmly welcomed in Russia,” Putin conveyed to Jaishankar during their exchange.
“We are well aware of Prime Minister Modi’s stance, and we have discussed it on multiple occasions. I am referring to his position and approach towards complex issues, including hotspots and the situation in Ukraine. I have consistently kept him informed about the developments surrounding this conflict. I am aware of his commitment to resolving this matter through peaceful means,” Putin stated.

“Please convey my best regards to him and inform him that we eagerly await his visit to Russia,” Putin requested Jaishankar, while acknowledging, “Although I understand that India will have a hectic political schedule next year” (referring to the 2024 Lok Sabha Election).

“We extend our best wishes to our friends in India,” Putin concluded.

The meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Putin represents the pinnacle of the official discussions between the two nations in their strategic partnership. It serves as the highest level of dialogue mechanism in their bilateral relationship.

In a recent statement, Jaishankar expressed his honor in meeting President Putin and conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Modi. He also delivered a personal message during their meeting. Jaishankar updated President Putin on his discussions with Ministers Manturov and Lavrov, and expressed gratitude for the guidance provided by the President regarding the future progress of their ties.

Over the years, the two countries have held 21 annual summits, taking turns hosting them in India and Russia. The most recent summit occurred in New Delhi in December 2021.

President Putin highlighted the growing trade turnover between Russia and India, particularly in the areas of crude oil and high technology.

Despite Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, the strong bond between India and Russia remains intact. India has refrained from condemning the Russian invasion and maintains that the crisis should be resolved through diplomatic means and dialogue.

Despite concerns raised by several Western countries, India’s import of Russian crude oil has significantly increased.
