Surendra Agarwal, the grandfather of the 17-year-old boy involved in the fatal Porsche car accident, was apprehended by the Pune Police on Saturday. Agarwal stands accused of pressuring the driver, Gangaram, into providing false statements to law enforcement, claiming that he was behind the wheel during the collision that resulted in the deaths of Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta.
The arrest took place at 3 am at Agarwal’s residence as part of a new case initiated by the Pune crime branch, marking the third FIR in the Pune Porsche crash incident. Previously, the crime branch had interrogated Agarwal to gain insights into his son and grandson, as well as their interactions on the day of the accident, in order to delve deeper into the matter.
It was revealed that the Porsche was registered under the realty firm, co-owned by Agarwal. Additionally, CBI sources disclosed that Agarwal was under trial in a shootout case for alleged dealings with gangster Chhota Rajan. Subsequent to the accident, the teenager was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), which initially granted him bail and instructed him to compose a 300-word essay. However, following public outcry and a police review petition, the JJB decided to detain the teenager, son of real estate magnate Vishal Agarwal, in an observation home until June 5.
Pune Police had urged for the minor to be treated as an adult during the prosecution process. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that they had submitted a review application to the Juvenile Justice Board, seeking to have the juvenile tried as an adult and placed in a remand home.
