Polygraph Test for Kolkata Rape-Murder Accused: The Truth Awaits !

Sanjay Roy’s attorney, who is charged with raping and killing a resident physician at a hospital in Kolkata, maintained her client’s innocence on Friday and predicted that the results of his polygraph, or lie detector exam, will be clear.

Advocate Kabita Sarkar stated, “My client Sanjay Roy also wants officials to conduct a polygraph test on him as it will bring out the truth,” in an exclusive interview with India Today TV. He is ready for the polygraph to cleanse his name because he is innocent. Since no other attorney was prepared to take the case, a Sealdah court appointed Kabita Sarkar to defend Sanjay Roy. Sarkar added that his client is under a great deal of mental strain as a result of the accusations levelled against him.

“I was present when Sanjay’s consent was taken for the polygraph test,” Sarkar said. “I took the time to fully explain the test to him, and he voluntarily provided his consent. He consented because he feels that the test will eventually show the truth, even if he is under a lot of mental strain as a result of the charges.”

After raping and killing a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor on August 9 at the seminar hall of the government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sanjay Roy is presently being held in detention.

But according to Kabita Sarkar, Roy had nothing to do with the crime for which he is being looked into. Sarkar further emphasized Roy’s willingness to provide complete cooperation for the current probe.

“Sanjay is prepared to undergo any tests necessary and is committed to assisting in every possible way to ensure that the real perpetrator is identified,” the top attorney stated.

Roy informed me he is not involved, Sarkar stated in response to a question about whether he had explicitly denied being involved in the crime. He has given me his word that he will assist with the probe in every way.

Kabita Sarkar made these comments in response to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is looking into this highly publicized issue, requesting authorization to give Sanjay Roy a polygraph test.

According to the guidelines, the accused must appear before a magistrate, who will request his consent to take the polygraph. Roy gave his agreement, and a Kolkata court allowed the CBI to administer the polygraph test to him.

OTHER LAWYERS ON KABITA SARKAR

Meanwhile, a number of attorneys and advocates have voiced their vehement opposition to Kabita Sarkar, a fellow advocate, being allowed to represent Sanjay Roy.

Although Kabita Sarkar’s right to represent her client is acknowledged by the legal profession, several of her colleagues have expressed their dissatisfaction.

“We strongly disagree with her choice to represent someone accused of such a horrific crime, but we do respect her right to select her cases,” one of the attorneys demonstrating stated. He has done something incredibly horrible. We are unwavering in our desire that the accused receive exemplary punishment and that justice be done.
