According to reports, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of Bengal, has decided not to attend the inauguration ceremony of the recently constructed Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Additionally, her political party, the TMC, will not be sending any representatives to the event.
Sources have revealed that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made the decision to abstain from attending the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22. Additionally, it is unlikely that her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), will send any representative to the ceremony. Although the TMC has not officially announced this decision, insiders close to Banerjee have disclosed that the party is cautious about becoming entangled in the ruling BJP’s political agenda.
They believe that the BJP intends to exploit the Ram Mandir inauguration as a launching pad for their 2024 Lok Sabha campaign, and the TMC is unwilling to play a subordinate role. This development occurs in the context of the Ram Temple trust extending invitations to all chief ministers and prominent opposition figures for the ceremony. Prior to this, Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the CPI(M), declined an invitation to the inauguration, asserting that religion should not be transformed into a tool for political gain.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Yechury’s party condemned the BJP and the RSS for transforming a religious event into a state-sponsored occasion. The newly constructed Ram temple is set to be inaugurated on January 22, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and over 6,000 individuals expected to attend the grand “Pran Pratistha” ceremony.
