New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a significant announcement today regarding the prices of domestic gas cylinders. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, PM Modi declared that the prices of domestic gas cylinders will be reduced by ₹100. This decision is expected to greatly alleviate the financial burden on numerous households. PM Modi emphasized that this move will particularly benefit the women of the country.
“On Women’s Day, our Government has decided to reduce LPG cylinder prices by Rs. 100. This will greatly alleviate the financial burden on households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti,” he stated on X.
PM Modi further expressed that by making cooking gas more affordable, his government aims to promote a healthier environment. He highlighted that this decision aligns with their commitment to empowering women and ensuring an “Ease of Living” for them.
“In addition to making cooking gas more affordable, we also aim to support the well-being of families and create a healthier environment. This is in line with our commitment to empowering women and ensuring an ‘Ease of Living’ for them,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Central government announced a related decision on Thursday, extending the subsidy of ₹300 per LPG cylinder to poor women under the Ujjwala Yojana for the upcoming fiscal year starting April 1.
Last year, the government increased the subsidy from ₹200 per 14.2-kg cylinders for up to 12 refills per year to ₹300 per bottle. The ₹300 per cylinder subsidy was applicable for the current fiscal year, ending on March 31.
PM Modi also took the opportunity to extend his greetings to the nation on International Women’s Day through a post on X. He expressed his admiration for the strength, courage, and resilience of India’s Nari Shakti (women power) and commended their achievements in various fields. PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering women through initiatives in education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology, and more. He also highlighted the accomplishments made in this regard over the past decade.
Opposition attacks Govt.
Supriya Sule, the NCP (SCP) MP, referred to the announcement as a mere political rhetoric. She pointed out the timing of the announcement, questioning why it took the ruling party 9 years to come up with such a decision. Sule expressed skepticism, suggesting that the announcement might be a strategic move with the upcoming elections in mind. She also highlighted the price difference in cylinders during her government’s tenure compared to the current rates.
