Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the 33rd death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. In a social media post, the Prime Minister paid his respects to the late PM Rajiv Gandhi Ji.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and party MP Rahul Gandhi also honored Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd death anniversary at Veer Bhumi in Delhi on Tuesday morning.
Additionally, other Congress leaders such as P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot also commemorated the former prime minister in the national capital.
Rajiv Gandhi assumed leadership of the Congress in 1984 after the assassination of his mother, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He became India’s youngest Prime Minister at the age of 40 when he took office in October 1984. Rajiv Gandhi served as the Prime Minister of India until December 2, 1989. Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was tragically assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber during an election rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991.
