President Droupadi Murmu also paid homage to the victims, stating that their patriotism will continue to inspire future generations.

Hundreds of people protesting peacefully against the Rowlatt Act, which granted repressive powers to the colonial administration, were gunned down by British forces without any provocation on this day in 1919 at Jallianwala Bagh in Punjab’s Amritsar. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre is also known as the Amritsar massacre. Hundreds of peaceful protestors were killed in indiscriminate firing by British forces on this day in 1919.
