Om Birla, the BJP nominee, has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. With the numbers favoring the ruling coalition, the NDA candidate was expected to retain the post. After his victory, Om Birla received congratulations from PM Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who accompanied him to the Speaker’s chair.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that Birla’s previous experience as Speaker would assist him in leading the country. Birla’s opponent, Congress candidate K Suresh, filed his nomination after the ruling party and Opposition failed to reach a consensus the previous evening.
After extending his congratulations to Om Birla on his election as the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Akhilesh Yadav, a Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party, emphasized the importance of ensuring that the voice of the Opposition is not suppressed and that there are no further expulsions from the House.
