London-based startup Nothing has been quite active recently. Just a few weeks after unveiling its initial budget smartphone under the ‘a’ branding, the company is now preparing to introduce a pair of new earbuds – and they come with an unexpected twist.
Known as the Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (a), these earbuds signify what the brand describes as “the culmination of three years of design and innovation.” To demonstrate their progress, Nothing is revamping its naming approach. Both earbuds are slated to premiere on April 18.
Had the previous naming convention persisted, we would have seen the release of the Nothing Ear 3 on the same date. However, after only two iterations, the company has chosen to switch things up.
Nothing has only provided a glimpse so far, revealing an image showcasing what seems to be the stem of a single white earbud. This teaser leaves the design changes for this release uncertain. As a brand focused on design-centric hardware, the aesthetic of its products is a significant selling point, but it’s unclear if Nothing will introduce new features alongside the sleek designs.
The Nothing Ear is expected to succeed the Nothing Ear 2 and might be priced similarly – around Rs 10K. Meanwhile, the Nothing Ear (a) will probably occupy a more affordable tier in the brand’s expanding lineup, akin to the positioning of the Nothing Phone 2a.
Details are scarce at this stage, typical of Nothing’s approach. However, anticipation builds as teasers are anticipated in the lead-up to the launch, gradually unveiling more about these two devices.
