NEET UG 2024 Hearing Live Updates: Supreme Court Reviews Pleas on Medical Exam Grace Marks !

Live Updates on NEET UG 2024 Hearing: The Supreme Court of India is set to hear multiple petitions regarding the controversy surrounding the medical entrance exam NEET UG 2024 on Monday. The bench, consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices J B Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra, will address a total of 38 petitions. Nevertheless, the Central government and the National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting NEET-UG, have informed the apex court that cancelling the exam would have a detrimental impact on numerous honest candidates, as there is no evidence of widespread breach of confidentiality. The NTA has reiterated the government’s stance, emphasizing that scrapping the entire exam would be highly detrimental and counterproductive to the larger public interest, particularly affecting the career prospects of qualified candidates.

NEET UG 2024 controversy

The Centre and the NTA informed the court on June 13 that they had revoked the grace marks given to 1,563 candidates. They were provided with the choice to either appear for a re-test or forfeit the additional marks granted for time lost. The NTA disclosed the updated rank list on July 1 following the release of the re-test results conducted on June 23.

A total of 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720, a first in NTA’s history, with six from a Haryana centre making it to the list, sparking concerns about irregularities in the exam. Allegations have been made that the grace marks led to the 67 students sharing the top position. The count of candidates sharing the top spot in the NEET-UG decreased to 61 from 67 as the NTA revealed the revised outcomes on July 1.

What NTA and Centre had said?

The Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) have informed the apex court that canceling the NEET-UG exam would have negative consequences and put at risk the futures of many honest candidates, especially since there is no evidence of widespread breach of confidentiality.
