Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall on Sunday, resulting in waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions to local transportation services. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued heavy rainfall throughout the week, with moderate to heavy showers expected on July 8. The IMD also predicted heavy rain in Maharashtra for the next three to four days, particularly impacting the Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions from July 8 to July 10, 2024.
BMC predicts high tide in the next few hours
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on X that Mumbai can expect a generally cloudy sky with occasional moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs. The BMC also forecasted a high tide at 2:33 pm, reaching 4.31 meters, and a low tide at 8:36 pm, measuring 1.63 meters.
Mumbai witnessed a total of 12 short-circuit incidents during heavy rains, leading to the unfortunate passing of a 72-year-old woman in Santacruz East.
The elderly lady sustained severe burn injuries as a result of a fire triggered by a short-circuit within a room at Haji Siddhiki Chawl on Datta Mandir Road.
Furthermore, the city reported 10 instances of house or wall collapses on Monday, although fortunately, there were no casualties in these particular incidents.
The train schedule for train no. 22511 LTT – KYQ Exp has been adjusted by Central Railway due to the current weather conditions in Mumbai.
Flights cancelled due to low visibility
Till 11:00 am on Monday, Mumbai experienced over 50 flight cancellations (comprising both arrivals and departures) due to low visibility caused by heavy rains. Runway operations were suspended for more than an hour. IndiGo was responsible for 42 of the cancelled flights, while Air India had 6 cancellations.
Waterlogging at Wadala Station of Mumbai
Mumbai is currently experiencing heavy rains, as seen in the footage from Wadala Station showing waterlogging. The Harbour line services are running a few minutes behind schedule due to the inclement weather.
The University of Mumbai has decided to delay all examinations that were planned for today, July 9, 2024, because of the anticipated heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Mumbai Suburbs, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. The revised examination dates will be communicated shortly.
