More than 60 schools in Delhi have evacuated students following a bomb threat, causing disruptions to exams.

Several educational institutions in Delhi and Noida have been evacuated due to a bomb threat communicated via email. Law enforcement authorities are currently present at the scene carrying out extensive search operations. As of now, no suspicious items have been discovered.

Efforts are currently underway by the Delhi Police to determine the IP address of the threatening email. However, thus far, the authorities have been unable to ascertain the identity of the sender or the origin of the email.

The police have labeled this incident as a deliberate act of mischief, as the threatening email was sent to numerous schools with the intention of causing panic. The cyber cell unit is actively involved in the investigation, working towards tracing the email and its associated IP address.

Among the initial schools to receive the threat were Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Mother Mary School in Mayur Vihar, and Delhi Public School in Dwarka. Subsequently, approximately 60 other schools also reported receiving similar emails, alluding to the presence of explosives on their premises.

During the incident, Mother Mary School was in the midst of conducting an examination, which had to be abruptly halted due to the commencement of search operations. The school promptly declared an emergency and instructed everyone to evacuate the premises immediately.

Delhi Public School (DPS) addressed the situation by sending a notification to parents, informing them of the threatening email and its potential impact on the safety and security of the students. As a precautionary measure, DPS decided to send the students back home without delay.

The school premises were cleared out following a notification to the local police. Footage from the schools depicted parents hurrying to collect their children.

Bomb detection team, bomb disposal squad, and officials from the Delhi Fire Service were dispatched to the schools.

Atishi, the Delhi education minister, verified the situation, stating that no suspicious items have been discovered in any of the schools.

“Some schools received bomb threats this morning. Students have been evacuated and the premises are being inspected by the Delhi Police. As of now, no threats have been found in any of the schools. We are coordinating closely with the Police and the schools. I urge parents and citizens not to panic. School authorities will communicate with parents as necessary,” Atishi mentioned in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

In February, a similar threat at Delhi Police School in RK Puram was determined to be a false alarm.
