Mohammed Shami became the first Indian bowler to take 7 wickets in a single World Cup match during India’s semi-final clash with New Zealand in Mumbai.
Shami became India’s first bowler to take 7 wickets in a single One Day International (ODI) during the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand on Wednesday in Mumbai. Shami finished with 7 for 57 as India dismissed New Zealand for Word Cup final. Shami’s 7 wickets broke Stuart Binny’s record of 6 for 4.
Shami’s figures were also India’s best in World Cups, surpassing Ashish Nehra’s 6/23 in the 2003 World Cup against England. Shami picked up seven wickets in the innings, including that of Devon Conway and Ravindra, as well as those of Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson, as well as that of Tom Latham and Lockie Ferguson. He also picked up the wickets of Tim Southee. With these seven wickets Shami has now become the leading wicket-taker in this edition of World Cups.
He also became the fastest bowler to take 50 wickets in this quadrennial edition, and the first to pick four 5-wicket hauls in World Cups.
