On Friday, the Delhi High Court expressed its disapproval of the police’s handling of the investigation into the deaths at the Old Rajinder Nagar coaching centre, raising concerns about the progress made thus far. A bench led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan was reviewing a petition that called for a comprehensive investigation into the fatalities of three civil services candidates in the basement of the coaching facility. During the proceedings, the court admonished the police regarding their investigative approach, remarking, “Fortunately, you have not charged rainwater for infiltrating the basement,” directed at the counsel representing the Delhi Police.
The court mentioned the arrest of an SUV driver by the police in relation to the deaths. The driver, Manuj Kathuria, was accused of driving his Force Gurkha car through a flooded street, causing the water to breach the gates of a three-storey building and flood the basement. However, he was released on bail after the police dropped culpable homicide charges against him on Thursday.
