“Manipur University Postpones UG, PG Exams Amid Ongoing Unrest”

Because to the continuous instability in Manipur, Manipur University has postponed all of its undergraduate and graduate examinations. For updates on the updated exam schedule, students are recommended to visit the official website (manipuruniv.ac.in) on a regular basis.

“This is to inform all concerned that, in light of the prevailing situation in Manipur State, all scheduled PG and UG examinations under Manipur University have been postponed until further notice,” the university said in an official notification.

“Please stay updated through official university channels for further announcements regarding the rescheduled examination dates,” it added.
The state of Meitei and Kuki groups have been engaged in violent battles, leading to curfews in many parts of Manipur, especially in Imphal and the surrounding valley. This is the reason for the postponement.

ONGOING ETHNIC TENSIONS

Manipur’s ethnic differences have been caused by escalating tensions between the Kuki community and the Meitei community, which comprise the bulk of the state’s population, for more than a year.

After a brief period of relative peace, increased violence between the two groups last week resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people. Roadblocks and curfews have become commonplace as competing militias fight for access to public sector jobs and land.

Exams were postponed by the institution as a precaution after incidents involving student demonstrators and police on Tuesday intensified.

Manipur University is a central university with 116 associated colleges, including two medical colleges, situated in the state capital of Imphal. There are nine Schools of Studies, 47 departments, and other research centers housed therein. Exam postponements have an effect on thousands of students in these faculties.
