Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday issued a harsh warning, saying, “Remember if Bengal is burned, then Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also be burned,” amid escalating tensions around the rape and murder case of a 31-year-old doctor in West Bengal.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, took exception by Banerjee’s caution and increased their call for her resignation, claiming that her “anti-national comments isn’t the voice of someone holding a constitutional position.” Sukanta Majumdar, the president of the Bengal BJP and a union minister, also lodged a grievance against Mamata Banerjee for encouraging violence in Kolkata on Wednesday in a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“CM Mamata Banerjee boldly incited a crowd today in Kolkata during her speech to the TMC Student Wing, saying, ‘I never sought revenge, but now, do what needs to be done.’” The letter from Majumdar stated, “This is nothing less than a blatant endorsement of revenge politics from the highest office in the state.”
He continued, “I humbly ask that you take notice of this important issue and take the necessary steps to resolve the situation, protect the rule of law, and preserve public order.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reacted to Banerjee’s warning about the potential wide-ranging effects of the disturbance outside the state by saying, “Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t give us the red eye. Don’t even attempt to use your failed politics to set India on fire. It is not appropriate for you to use words that divide people.
N Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, was infuriated by Banerjee’s statement as well and insisted that she provide a formal apology to the Northeast region as well as the country at large.
Didi has no right to threaten the Northeast. I really disapprove of such thoughtless remarks. She needs to apologise to the Northeast and the entire country in public. Mamata Ji needs to immediately quit using divisive politics to incite hatred and violence. Threatening violence on a public forum is incredibly inappropriate for a political figure.
Joining Sarma and Biren Singh, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charam Majhi asked Banerjee, “Who gave you the right to make such objectionable remarks about Odisha?”
“Odisha is a peaceful state with responsible and aware citizens.” The people of Odisha will never put up with your harsh remarks, disparaging remarks, and callous disregard for our state. Your remark is hazardous for the nation because it takes revenge rather than providing justice to the victim of a horrible crime. Please don’t do this. Remain calm, he said.
The opposition parties have been accusing the Chief Minister of neglecting to uphold law and order, and her handling of the current crisis in Bengal has drawn increasing criticism.

Mamata is attacked by the BJP and is asked to resign.
Mamata Banerjee’s caution is being compared to the voice of an anti-national, according to Union minister and Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar, who also called out Banerjee for her remarks and sought her resignation as Chief Minister.
Speaking to X, he said, “CM Mamata Banerjee makes anti-national remarks today, saying that Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will burn as well. She does this in a shameless manner.” This is the voice of an anti-nationalist, not of someone with a constitutional viewpoint.
Her words are obviously intended to provoke violence, frighten individuals, and promote enmity among them. She is no longer deserving of such a significant role. “Mamata Banerjee needs to step down right away,” he continued.
“A cornered Mamata Banerjee has declared war on the people of West Bengal, who are holding her to account in the brutal rape and murder of a young lady doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital,” tweeted Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s IT unit, in response to Banerjee. Our sister or daughter might have been the deceased, but Mamata demands more blood.
“Mamata Banerjee, who was once an advocate of the phrase ‘Bodol noy, Bodla Chai,’ has now boldly changed her position and openly called for the exact retribution that she claimed to detest,” he continued.
“A call to violence by an elected Chief Minister is the greatest betrayal of the people’s mandate,” Union minister Piyush Goyal stated in response to Banerjee’s remarks.
The chief minister of Bengal was criticized by Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, who said, “Mamata Didi, your frustration is justified.” After all, the Kolkata rape-murder case is exposing your administration and police on a daily basis.
“You have turned Bengal into a stronghold of violence, chaos, and poor leadership. However, in contrast to Bengal, BJP-ruled states employ the law’s bulldozer to deal with goons, anarchist elements, and criminals, denying them the protection of love, the speaker continued.
“Will Enact Laws Prohibiting Rape”: Mamata Banerjee
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, announced on Wednesday that her Trinamool Congress party will approve a measure on anti-rape laws that will allow the accused to be executed if found guilty.
“We intend to enact anti-rape legislation that guarantees the death penalty for the perpetrator within seven days of the offense,” Mamata Banerjee declared.
The Chief Minister also issued a protest warning, stating, “We will call an Assembly session next week and pass the bill within 10 days.” This bill will be forwarded to Governor CV Ananda Bose. We’re going to sit outside Raj Bhavan if he fails. This bill needs to pass, and this time he can’t get away with it.
