Chief minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for spreading “propaganda” in response to the arrest of two suspects in the Bengaluru Rameswaram Cafe blast case. Banerjee emphasized that the state police apprehended the accused within two hours and highlighted that they were not from Bengal but had hidden there temporarily. Speaking at an election rally in Cooch Behar, she questioned the safety of other states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Bihar.
The BJP, on the other hand, criticized the Banerjee government, stating that West Bengal had become a safe haven for terrorists under her leadership. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested the two suspects, who were identified as Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taha, from Kolkata. The BJP’s Bengal co-in-charge, Amit Malviya, made these remarks.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh praised the West Bengal Police for their role in the arrest and highlighted that even the NIA acknowledged their contribution. Ghosh also called for an investigation into the alleged involvement of a family in Contai, which is known to be a stronghold of BJP legislator Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the state assembly. Adhikari claimed that the incident further proved that West Bengal was a safe haven for “international terrorists.”
