Actor-politician Kamal Haasan stated on Wednesday that his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), is currently engaged in discussions regarding a political alliance. He emphasized that MNM would support any alliance that prioritizes the nation’s interests and refrains from engaging in “feudal politics.” Haasan, while addressing reporters after leading the 7th anniversary celebrations of MNM, also expressed his approval of the recent entry of popular Tamil actor Vijay into politics.
When asked if MNM would join the multi-party opposition INDIA bloc, Haasan replied, “I have already made it clear that now is the time to set aside party politics and focus on the nation. MNM will be a part of any alliance that selflessly works for the betterment of the country.” However, he clarified that MNM would not align with those involved in “local feudal politics.”
Regarding his involvement with the INDIA grouping, Haasan responded, “No, I have not joined them.” He further mentioned that discussions are ongoing regarding a potential political alliance for his party, and any positive developments in this regard will be shared with the media.
This question arose amidst speculations that Haasan’s party was engaged in alliance talks with the DMK, led by Chief Minister M K Stalin, for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
MNM had previously contested in the 2019 LS polls and the 2021 TN Assembly elections, but unfortunately, they were unable to achieve significant success.
