The confrontation began following the army and police making contact with the insurgents in the thick forest at Trimukha peak, linking Lolab with Bandipora and Baramulla districts. This route has been utilized by the militants to move between districts, particularly after crossing the Line of Control through Tanghdar and Machil sectors of Kupwara.

The security forces have made contact with #terrorists near Trimukha Top, Lolab, #Kupwara. The operation is currently ongoing. This area is near the army’s Divar camp, which monitors militant activity in the deep Lolab Valley, a transit point for infiltrators who have crossed the LoC and entered Kupwara. While the Lolab Valley has been relatively calm, a militant hideout near Sogam was discovered by the Border Security Forces (BSF) and the army a few months ago.

The army has thwarted three infiltration attempts in the Keran and Uri sectors in the past two months, resulting in the deaths of six infiltrators, most of whom were foreigners near the LoC. Following these encounters, the Army has increased surveillance in areas used by infiltrators to enter the Valley, including regular patrolling and the use of surveillance gadgets on the hi-tech fencing near the LoC, particularly at night and during inclement weather. The army also utilizes drones, quadcopters, and human intelligence to monitor the movement of infiltrators near the LoC fencing.
